Queenstown is the adventure capital of New Zealand. It is a great town for tourists and has so many things to do you won’t know where to start. You can go bungee-jumping, ballooning, paragliding, fishing, zip-lining, rafting, and skiing in winter months. Queenstown is a beautiful place and one you should definitely visit on your travels through New Zealand.
Things to do in Queenstown include:
Lake Wakatipu is unique because of its Z-shape. The lake is surrounded by Maori legend and has interesting water rise and fall because of its odd shape. The lake is used for recreational boating, fishing, and kayak tours.
Shotover River Jet Boating
This is one for the adrenaline and adventure junkies. Only one company is allowed to do business in the canyon area and they offer jet boat trips on the narrow Shotover river. This is one of Queenstown’s most popular and exciting tourist attractions.
AJ Hackett Bungy
AJ Hackett Bungy is the guys who started the bungee jumping craze and they are still going. Their famous bungee jumping spot is the Kawarau Bridge where the first jump happened in 1988. They also offer jumps from the Necis Point location which is the highest bungee point in New Zealand.
Skipper’s Canyon is one of the most beautiful sights you will ever see. It is a 22-kilometre-long canyon that leads to Coronet Peak which becomes covered in snow in the winter. Personal cars are allowed on the canyon route, but it is best to make use of one of the Skipper’s Canyon tours. Insurance may not pay out if something happens on this route.
Skiing in The Remarkables
The Remarkables is a ski resort situated on the mountain range of the same name. This is a very popular destination for tourists during the winter months and offers all kinds of snow involved activities. There is no accommodation on the slopes themselves, but there are regular bus services to and from Queenstown.
